The Beatles

Come Together

(Lennon/McCartney)
Here come old flattop, he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please

He wear no shoeshine, he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger, he shoot coca-cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me

He bag production, he got walrus gumboot
He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me

[Right!
Come, oh, come, come, come.]

He roller-coaster, he got early warning
He got muddy water, he one mojo filter
He say "One and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking cos he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me

Oh
Come together
Yeah come together
Yeah come together
Yeah come together
Yeah come together
Yeah come together
Yeah come together
Yeah oh
Come together
Yeah come together

Making Random Things Come Together

To start this exercise, write a word list for each of the topics below. Be brave and bold.

  1. Name some things you fear.
For example: God, fire, grasshoppers, death, ugliness, poison
  2. Pick a color and then use the color word to describe something. For example: Blue is the ocean. As blue as frosting. Blue is nail polish.
  3. Name something that is a superpower or super powered thing.
For example: Human flight. Time travel. A food making (replicator) machine.
  4. List some words that have to do with music.
For example: Crickets, Bad Influence. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.
  5. Write down at least five cool sounding words. For example: Trickle. Fresh. Canopy.
  6. Name a place. For example: Arbuckle. Honolulu.
  7. Describe a few of your secret desires.
For example: Hey.... Your turn to share with me ;-)
  8. Describe something(s) you did when you were seven years old.
(I think you understand now what to do here.)
---

Okay! That's the hard part. Now, write a short (maybe no longer than 24 lines) using the things from your list above. You don't have to use everything.

Send us your word art or lyrics, from this exercise and we'll share your work on the AlienFlower Web site. Here we're sharing two exercise submissions below by Michael Levy and Jackie Pilayan. When Michael tried this exercise, his writing moved in a new direction that's very different than his normal voice.

Untitled
    by Mark Slattery

I have a fear of discovery, of what,
I will not admit even to myself.
Myself grins in knowing -
wanting, willing, waiting to share

In the blood red light of meditation
I seek Nirvana enlightenment samadhi
Myself smiles in growing -
waiting, wanting, willing, to share

Are angels and demons both sides of one coin
Myself and I the least among them?
Myself, on the other side, laughs.
Willing. Wanting. Waiting.

Opening Night
   by Michael Levy

Some people think
of spiders and snakes, asleep or awake,
illusions in the garbed dark.
Their dreams consume
the strength of Hercules.
Their music, to the ears of the gods,
beats in the clouds.
It is harp strings on earth.
Be-bop-a loo-la!
In the bedroom
is moats-art
on the toilet.
He is mystical and he floats
effortless. Zephyrs surge.
No thing less drifts
and the ocean waves ,,,, over it all.
Here is Broadway 'n a different way
playing tricks on the teacher.

A Peaceful Nightmare
   by Jackie Pilayan

Pink do my cheeks turn
As I stand alone in the crowd.
Wishing and hoping was I
For someone to speak to me.
I stand and wonder
If I've shooed them away,
With my Bible and my scarred tummy.
I chose to close my eyes,
Nod to a silent rhythm,
And erase all hidden shame and anger.
As I lifted my foot up to dance
I took one last glance
And surprised was I, to be in Paris, France.
